A means to work out and share my thoughts on American politics and society. I am a professor whose specialty is U.S. history and, within that area, immigration. My perspective is possibly liberal relative to that of the general public but conservative relative to that of the typical academic in my field. My goal, however, is to be rigorously analytical and non-partisan.
